Manchester United have reportedly ‘agreed’ a deal with Ralf Rangnick to become their interim manager ahead of this weekend’s clash against Chelsea.
Manchester United appear likely to appoint Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager until the end of the season, according to some reports.
The Athletic have claimed that Rangnick has reached an agreement with United and will therefore leave his current position as head of sports and development at Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow.
The German has reportedly agreed a six-month deal until the end of the current campaign before moving to a consultancy role for the following two years.
However, it is claimed that the 63-year-old will not take charge of this weekend’s game against Chelsea, with work permit issues allowing Michael Carrick to sit in the managerial dugout against the Blues.
Rangnick has previously claimed that the reigning champions of Europe approached him after sacking Frank Lampard back in January, offering him an interim position, something that he wasn’t willing to accept at the time.
Speaking to The Times earlier this year, he said: “‘I said: ‘I would like to come and work with you, but I can’t do it for four months. I’m not an interim coach’.
“To the media and players you would be the ‘four-month manager’, a lame duck, from day one.”
The former RB Leipzig boss also hailed Thomas Tuchel , who ended up succeeding Lampard, praising his compatriot’s leadership skills whilst also nodding to Tuchel’s assistant, Zsolt Low.
“I can only congratulate Thomas and Chelsea for the choice.”
